Caister, Marguerite (Died)

CAISTER - Marguerite Caister, 106, of Tavistock passed away peacefully at the PeopleCare Health Care Centre in Tavistock on Thursday, October 30, 2008. She was born at Lot 34, Con.11, East Zorra Township, on the family farm named “Kent Lodge” on November 7, 1901. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a daughter of the late Edwin and Margaret (Ross) Caister. She was predeceased by three brothers, Jack, Beverley and Wallace and a sister, Helen Robinson. Marguerite was Secretary-Treasurer of the South Easthope Mutual Insurance Company in Tavistock for forty-two years, missing only three days at work until her retirement in 1973. She was an accomplished pianist, earning her degree from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music in 1928. She taught the piano to many Tavistock residents and was an organist and choir leader for many years at the former Knox United Church in Tavistock. She was a life member and past president of the Tavistock Women’s Institute. She was a member of Grace United Church and a life member and past president of the United Church Women. Marguerite is survived by devoted friends, Susan and Edward Pellow, of Tavistock; one niece, Margaret Caister; four nephews, Allen Caister, Ronald Caister, Ross Caister and Donald Robinson; several great and great great nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends will be received in the FRANCIS FUNERAL HOME, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Saturday, November, 1, 2008 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Marion Jackson Tyler will officiate. Interment in McTavish Cemetary.
