BURRILL, John Harle - In his 74th year, at his home, on the evening of February 25th, John succumbed to God’s wishes. As a resident of Woodstock for nearly 50 years, he made many friends and was known as a genuinely gentle spirit, very generous with his time and wisdom. John retired 17 years ago after more than 30 years as Frank Cowan Company’s Secretary/Treasurer. He recently retired, after 37 years, from the volunteer position as Treasurer for the Oxford V.O.N. and was a great supporter of Sakura House Hospice. He leaves behind two sisters who loved him dearly, Joan Scott (Earl) and Linda Simons (Bob), was a much loved and respected uncle to Heather Maby, Douglas Scott (Julie), David Scott (Shelley), Jennifer Dallaway (Bob), Dawn Bate (Dave), Karen Scott and Jeff Simons, and adored his fourteen great nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his best friend and companion Dave Hadden. Friends will be received at the Longworth Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, (519-539-0004) on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 from 2:30-4:30 and 7-9 p.m., where the funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Louise Rutledge officiating. Interment later in Burgessville Baptist Cemetery. Contributions to the V.O.N. Sakura House or the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated.
