KILLING, John Vernon, 63, of Tavistock and formerly of Hickson passed away suddenly at Stratford General Hospital on Sunday, September 20, 2009. He was born on April 26, 1946, son of the late Henry and Hazel (Hallock) Killing, and grew up on the Tenth Line of East Zorra Township. John was the C.A.O. of the Township of East Zorra Tavistock for thirty years prior to his retirement in 2000. He resided in Hickson for 38 years prior to moving to Tavistock in 2008. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his small community, served it through his involvement with Hickson United Church, the Hickson Volunteer Fire Department and minor sports, for which he had a passion. John is survived by his wife, the former Linda Violet Wilhelm, whom he married at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sebastopol-Tavistock on June 14, 1968; three children, Kari and husband Chris Holdsworth, Kent and Jenn Killing, all of Tavistock; Suzanne and husband Derek Wood of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Lauren and Jack Holdsworth, Hailey, Jordan and Leah Killing, Gracie Wood; “Wilhelm” sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Bob Wettlaufer, Phyllis Wilhelm and Jim McKay, Sandra Kalbfleisch and Hugh Brenneman, Jane and Steve Bender, Brian and Joanne Wilhelm, all of the Hickson/Tavistock area. He was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Ken Wilhelm and Bill Kalbfleisch. Relatives and friends will be received in the FRANCIS FUNERAL HOME, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Wednesday, September 23, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sebastopol-Tavistock on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 11 a.m. Pastor Betty Jean Page will officiate. Interment in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Hickson United Church, Tavistock & District Skating Club, Tavistock or Hickson Minor Ball or Tavistock Minor Hockey would be appreciated and may be made by calling the Francis Funeral Home at 1-519-655-2431.
