POETZ, Gerda - Gerda Poetz (nee Friesenbichler) was a woman of determination and pride to the end. She died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 at the Hanover District Hospital in her 86th year. She was predeceased by her husband, Rupert (1990), her son Frank (1972) and her brother Franz (Austria, 1945). Mom and Oma will be missed by her children, Trudy & Alex Baran (Hanover), Bob & Jane Poetz (Burford), and Linda & Craig Rice (Calgary); her grandchildren, Katrina, Jessica & Steven Baran, Bryan (Sheila) Poetz, and Lindsey (Joe) Mrav. Gerda had strong ties to her native Austria and her beloved St Jakob im Walde and will be missed by brother Josef (Cecilia) Friesenbichler, sister-in-law Theresia Potz and many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. Gerda was a resident of the Burford area since 1959 and will be remembered for her fabulous cooking and colourful flowerbeds. Friends will be received at the KEITH OVINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 134 King Street, Burford on Friday, April 9th, 2010 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial service in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Pioneer Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations in Gerda's memory may be made to the Alzheimers Society. KEITH OVINGTON 449-1112.
