Reverse:
"A SUNNY AFTERNOON AT THE WATERFRONT
This tranquil scene at the foot of Yonge Street recalls the era when Toronto enjoyed passenger steamer services to many ports on Lake Ontario. Excursions by ship were an important part of every family's summer activities and one could sail to such places as Hamilton, Grimsby Beach, Port Dalhousie, the Niagara River Ports, Olcott Beach, Charlotte, Kingston, and the towns on the St. Lawrence River.
Yonge Street slip was the heart of the passenger docks, which extended eastward to Scott Street. In this photograph, taken on the 18th of June, 1924, the "Cape Trinity" is embarking on a season of Thousand Island cruises by way of the Bay of Quinte. Astern of her is the "Cape Eternity" which has just arrived with a capacity load of Rotarians on a convention cruise to Toronto. On the right is the "Dalhousie City" laying over between trips to Port Dalhousie. In the background, may be seen the tops of the widely-spaced funnels of the "Chippewa" as she awaits the. evening sailing to Niagara.
Within five years, the familiar passenger docks had disappeared and the entire area had been filled in to create new land. Today, the passenger steamers are gone and all that remains is the memory of happy voyages on Lake Ontario in a more leisurely age." - Inscriptions
