- Description
- Black and white photo of Masonic Hall (the Old Stone Barracks) at the corner of Prideaux and King Streets in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. The first meeting of the first parliament of Upper Canada may have taken place at this site, used at that time for meetings of the Lodge, the public and church. This structure is alleged to have been built from the rubble of the town after the War of 1812. The new building, erected on the site in 1816, was used as a store, a school and military barracks until the 1870s when the freemasons bought the barracks and refitted it, thus returning to their original site. It continues to house the first Masonic Lodge in Upper Canada.
