Molson, head librarian, said it is very gratifying to have worked at the library for 30 years, noting everything has come full circle as the small children who used to come to story hour now bring their own small children to library programs. Both Molson and Potter thanked the town for recognizing their long service with the library.
Library staff honored for outstanding service

Niagara-on-the-Lake's library has come of age, and two long-term employees were honored for their part in the transformation during a recent special meeting. The annual Canada Day council meeting in Navy Hall, annually chosen as the venue of special council presentations, gave the town and the NOTL Public Library board a chance to honor Linda Potter and Gerda Molson for 25-years service. "(Potter and Molson) were hired 25 years ago to help bring us into existence," library board chairman Bob Allen told a crowd of about 50 in Navy Hall. "Up to that time the library was a museum of old books . . . Now it's referred to as a showplace," Allen added.
As well as several members of the library board, a contingent of library volunteers were on hand to hear how the local Court House library has become "what all libraries should be like."
"We take a back seat to no library in Ontario and we're very proud of that," Allen said. Molson, chief executive officer, and Potter, assistant librarian, were integral in organizing the 10,000-volume collection in 1969 into the 47,000-volume library of today and were part of the library's 1972 expansion and introduction to the age of electronics. The library serves as an important summer resource and special programs centre for children and youths on vacation from school.
