REPORT EIGHTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE, EIGHTEENTH DISTRICT QUOTA CLUB INTERNATIONAL, INC., OTTAWA, ONTARIO, OCTOBER 16, 17, & 18, 1953 The Eighth Annual Conference of the Eighteenth District Quota Club, International, Incorporated, was held in the Chateau Laurier Hotel, Ottawa, with the Quota Club of Ottawa as Hostess Club, Governor Pearl E. Fenton, of Ottawa, presided throughout the conference with the exception of the luncheon honoring the Presidents, when Lieutenant- Governor Phyllis Kennedy of London presided. The Business Session of the Eighth Annual Conference was called to order 9.30 A. M, on October 17th, with Governor Fenton presiding. Eighteen delegates were present: HAMILTON Juanita Symington and Edna Fairfield KITCHENER-WATERLOO Betty MacDonald and Margaret Morrison LONDON Edna Hunter and Phyllis Kennedy MONTREAL Iva A. Brown and Mabel Perry NIAGARA FALLS Jessie M. Huggins and Gussie Winn OTTAWA Agnes Eade and Alma Hammond ORILLIA Esther Ballard and Hazel Smith SARNIA Chris Fairley and Norma Harvey TORONTO Florence Montgomery and Mary Smith Howard The Invocation was given by Helene MacKenzie, Past Governor, of Hamilton, and the Quota Collect was recited in unison. Controller Daniel McCann, in the absence of Her Wordship Mayor Charlotte Whitton, welcomed the Conference to Ottawa, and extended greetings from Mayor Whitton and the City Council. He stated that Ottawa was the only Capital City in the world, who has a Lady Mayor, The Quotarian Welcome was extended to the visiting Quotarians by Agnes Eade, President of the Quota Club of Ottawa. This was responded to by Betty Macdonald, President of the Kitchener-Waterloo Club. Catherine A. Byrnes of Springfield, Mass,, International Director of Quota Club International, Inc, an honoured guest, was introduced and extended a warm welcome. She expressed her pleasure at being present and extended greetings from the International Board. Governor Fenton then declared the Eighteenth Annual Conference of the Eighteenth District open for business. In the absence of the District Secretary-Treasurer, Reeta V. Derraugh of Ottawa, who was required to attend at Departmental Conference in Vancouver, at this time, Governor Pearl appointed Elsie M. Beaman of Ottawa to act as District Secretary-Treasurer for the Conference. The adoption of the printed program was moved by Jessie M, Huggins, President of the Niagara Falls Club, and seconded by Agnes Eade, President of the Ottawa Club. CARRIED.
