THE ROYAL GEORGE THEATRE TOUR & HISTORY The following narrative has been provided as a background or guide for Docents who are conducting tours at the Royal George. Background information is available in the Shaw Library. How much or how little of the 'history' of the building and narrative used is at the Docent's discretion - depending on their tour group. For example, locals or patrons who are quite familiar with The Shaw and knowledgeable about the History, Mandate etc. may enjoy getting some 'local history' - people new to the theatre may benefit more from learning about the History, Mandate, Repertory Theatre and the Ensemble . The places where "Notes" have been provided suggest where the Mandate, History etc might be discussed. Again this information is for the information of the Docent and should be adapted as appropriate. While there are comments and suggestions for the various stops - they focus primarily on details specific to this theatre. Much of the information included with the Docent Tours at the Festival Theatre is also appropriate for the George and Docents should augment this information to enhance the tour experience. Of course, the amount of time available - from 20-30 minutes - will also impact on the amount of 'historical information' provided. A set changeover or talk by a Company Member would add up to 30 minutes. Groups: As there may be 1 or 2 groupings of 10 people booked at one time the following route(s) will be followed: Shaw Festival Contact: Suzanne Merriam Royal George Theatre Contact to confirm details: Dan Kennedy
