- In 1962, eight weekend performances of "Don Juan in hell" and "Candida" (both by Bernard Shaw) were presented in the Court House in Niagara-on-the-Lake as a part of event title "A Salute to Shaw" organized by Brian Doherty. The enthusiastic response made it possible to continue and in 1963, the Shaw Festival Theatre Foundation was established as a non-profit organization.
