Foreword When plans were being made to celebrate the Hamilton Area Women's Institute Twenty-fifth! Annual Convention, it was decided to compile the history of the origin, and growth of Area and Districts, and publish it in booklet form, that an authentic record might be pre-served. Mrs. A. E. Walker was appointed to write the history of the Area, and Mrs. J. H. Carscallen to receive and edit the District Histories. To these and the secretaries who compiled their Districts History, we acknowledge grateful thanks. To Mrs. A. E. Walker who has so clearly portrayed the details of the origin and work, and the gist of important messages brought to us throughout the years, we owe a great debt of gratitude.
