ONTARIO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE Women's Institute Branch HOMEMAKING CLUB UNIT COTTONS MAY BE SMART LEADERS' MANUAL Every girl should know how to dress simply, attractively and within her means. In order-to do this she should know how to plan, select, make and care for her clothing. To be well dressed consideration must be given to health, posture and personal grooming, as well as to the clothing. OBJECTIVES 1. To assist club members with their daily' clothing problems 2. To develop an appreciation of the higher standards of workmanship 3. In increase knowledge through personal experience in selecting, constructing and finishing a garment 4. To help club members know what qualities to expect in various fabrics THE LOCAL LEADER 1. Attends County Local Leader Training School 2. Assists in organizing club. 3. Flans and carries on prescribed course with the club. 4. Has knowledge of sewing and gift of leadership that Villi make her capable of giving demonstrations, leading 'discussions and giving general directions in respect to the club. 5. Checks quality of work. 6. Helps with reports. 7. Creates an interest in the club and encourages members to complete work undertaken. Local leaders are the directors and in charge of club activities. An assistant may be appointed if it is thought necessary CLUB MEMBERSHIP 1. Junior girls - 12 to 16 years inclusive Senior girls - 16 to 26 years inclusive Junior and senior girls may work together, the seniors undertaking more work if considered advisable. 2. It is desirable that at least four girls comprise a Home-making Club . 3. A girl may be a leader and a club member. CONTENT 1. The selection of cotton material. 2. Commercial patterns, how to use them. 3. Planning, selecting and making a spectator sport dress 4. The 'why' of good posture
