Description
Two three penny (3d) British Peace Issue stamps of 1946, also known as the 1946 Victory Stamp issue. These postal stamps feature both masonic and non-masonic elements: face of King George VI surmounted by a crown, a dove carrying the olive branch, the square and compasses, and a trowel and portion of a brick wall.
The stamps are inside presentation box with handwritten dedication: "Presented to Bro. Bradley D. Kempston at his installation as Worshipful Master of St. John's Lodge #68 A.F & A.M. G.R.C. Ingersoll, Ont Jan 19, 1988"

additional comments [from a museum catalogue]:
"The stamp is purported to display several Masonic symbols and illustrative suggestions. It is also believed that H.M. the King, George VI, in 1946 the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of England, chose the design himself for the commemorative Victory issue.
Because the stamp was not issued for a Masonic purpose, it is not a true Masonic stamp. According to one interpretation, the stamp was "used only for postage to foreign lands . . . . " One would normally expect stamp cancellation to be made in the country of origin; the right-hand stamp on display carries the overprint, TANGIER." The word, difficult to read, appears below the dove and olive branch - from time immemorial, the symbol of peace."
