From the Official Medal Roll, the medal was sent by registered mail January 7, 1900 to Virgil, Niagara, Ontario, with the qualifying comments:
"24th May to 5th June, 1870, at Virgil and Port Dalhousie, protecting entrance to Welland Canal." The 19th (Lincoln) Battalion was commanded by Lt. Col. James G. Currie and Sgt. John Knox served in the 6th Company, commanded by Capt. Edmund Short. The Medal Roll indicates that 56 soldiers of the 19th (Lincoln) Battalion received the CGS medal with the single bar Fenian Raid 1870.
