My dear Wallace
I was awfully surprised to hear of your fathers death last nigh. I simply must write and offer you & yours my deepest sympathy. Your Dad was a man I always admired in more ways than one. I knew him long before I knew Niagara Township. We used to meet at the conventions [word] make was always kind enough to stop and talk to us students when other men that knew less thought it would be infradig as boys, we appreciate his courtesy and his appearance was always a welcome sight from [word]. Since I came .. here your Father never missed the opportunity of wising me success and commending me for anything I did which he though was along the right lines. So you see I can feel with you as I too feel that I have lost a friend.
Please offer you & your wife(?) my deepest sympathies.
And with my most sincere thoughts
