The old Armstrong House - <br> The white stucco house on River Road owned by the Armstrong's was built in 1803 - date was scratched on an old brick and found when being done over in 1924 by Mr. Bailey of Toronto contractor. He also found a bullet embedded in one of the oak beams on the east side of the house, presumably shot there the day of the battle. Needless to say Mr. Bailey was quite excited over his discovery. The adjacent land was quite a treasure house for her finding of soldier's buttons, old coins and arrowheads from time to time.<br>      The house originally had 2 rooms on main floor and 2 rooms above with 2 fireplaces. Mr. Bailey said the house was fame lined with sun dried brick. He left some of these bricks in a pile to be used in the foundation. but next morning when he went to use them they were gone. There had been rain during the night.<br>      Col. Stevens lived in the house at the time of the battle of Queenston Heights. It was I think part of the U.E.L. Street property. This property was divided and owned by several - Melea, Geo. Neale, Street were names on different deeds. Then it was bought by Jas. Durham II about ^ 1854 who in turn left it to his daughter Catherine Mrs Wm Armstrong.<br> Isabel M. Walsh
