M r . W i l s o n stopped the n igh t l y beat ing and put away the b u l l w h i p . Everyth ing became norma l aga in , M o r e than four hours of sleep we re ob ta ined every n ight . W e c o u l d return to ou r jobs . . . if w e sti l l had t h e m . W e came h o m e to surprised and confused parents w h o had taken us for dead or worse and hard ly recogn ized us any longer. W e stop- ped s leep ing t h r o u g h classes and h o m e w o r k was actua l l y c o m - pleted occas iona l ly .
