- "Some might call Harry Steele the "father" of softball in Niagara-on-the-Lake. As one of the founders of a minor league in the 1950's, he proceeded to become the preeminent coach of the 60's, 70's, and 80's, leading Juvenile 'A' teams to three Provincial Championships between 1967 and 1972 and taking a Masters Slo-Pitch team to an Ontario Championship in 1985. His incredible dedication to the town in all manner of ways, while universally appreciated by our residents, was in 1968 officially recognized by the Premier of Ontario, John P. Roberts. However, for all his accomplishments perhaps Harry's most enduring legacy will be what he did with his inimitable charm and delicate tough and how he gently molded youthful souls, always bringing out the best in his players as both athletes and human beings."
