- Born in 1879 in Buffalo, Launcelot was raised in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Through the original two nine-hole golf courses in town, he found a passion that would last his life. As an amateur, Launcelot won 'low-net' in a major international tournament in Niagara, sanctioned by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of Scotland. As a professional golfer, Mr. Servos became one of the founding members of the U.S. PGA. He was the longest driver in the 1900 US Open, later only surpassed by Harry Varden. He was also a course designer, credited in 1898 with the first golf course ever built in Florida. Launcelot was a consummate professional and teacher, recognized by Macgregor Golf in the 1920s with his name being etched on their clubs (later to be followed by such luminaries as Jack Nicklaus). It was as an author and playwright that he returned to live his senior years in NOTL and can be found today buried beside his mother at St. Marks Church.
