Thanks so much to the Town of Haileybury(now Temiskaming Shores)for developing this well constructed Pioneer Cemetery. I have a couple of ancestors that were buried in the original location that were moved to this new location. They are Peter Giroux(1837-1897)and his Grandson William Alfred Farrell (March 20,1911-May 14,1913). Little William was buried over his grandfather Peter. The headstone was found approximately 50m east(in an area of overgrown rose bushes)of the new location. Also in the original cemetery was Peter's brother Henry Peter Giroux(1865-1909), buried beside Peter as sketched out by my Grandfather Andrew Richard Farrell in 1970. Henry's grave marker was not found. Buried with Henry is his daughter Sybil(Dec.24,1907-Nov.29,1909). My Grandfather, Andrew Richard Farrell (1899 -1979)was one of the first boys born in Haileybury at 76 Little St. He and my Father and Mother found the headstone in 1970 and stood it up among the rose bushes. Andrew was responsible for addressing the Town of Haileybury and thus the new location was formed.

Peter Giroux died of the beating (a few weeks later) he got from Tom Lawlor's men for trespassing on his way from his farm in North Cobalt to the docks to get his supplies. His son Fred was also beaten but was ok in after a short while.

I have many stories and information regarding the Giroux-Farrell families and may add to this later.

Again, Thanks to the Town of Haileybury.
