- William Hutton came to Canada in 1834 and became a farmer in Hastings County. He established an agricultural society. For 30 years he corresponded with his mother and other relatives about the family fortunes and tragedies, pioneer farming, his work as the first county Warden and first school superintendent and his influence on Egerton Ryerson. His letters give insight into the life and times of a farmer, educator and local politician.
