Applications. or permission to accep and wear Medals which, not being the decoration of any Foreign Order, are conferred by a Foreign Sovereign on British Subjects in the ariny or in the navy for military or naval services, should be ad_ dressed as the case may be, to the Commanderâ€"inâ€" chief, to the Secretary of State for War, orthe Lords of the Admiralty, who, if they see fit, may submit the same to Her Majesty‘s Principal Secretary of State for Forsign Affairs for Her Majesty‘s sancâ€" tion, upon obtaining which they may grant such persission without any other formality. 2, Permission to wear a Foreign Medal cannot be granted to a British subject unless such medal is bestowed for military or naval services performed by the command or with the sanction of Her Maâ€" josty. But no permission is necessary for acceptâ€" ing a Foreign Medal, if such Medal is not to bo ll hereby given, that the Directors of the Ottawa and Gloucester Road Company have this day made a further CGall of 10 Per CGent Ottawa & Gloucester Road Compy. 10. The preceding clause shall not be taken to apply to decorations of the Guelphic Order which were bestowed on British subjects by Her Majesâ€" ty‘s predecessors King George IV. and King Wil. liam 1V., on whose heads the Crowns of Great Briâ€" tain and Hanover were united. Decorations so bestowed cannot proper!y be conâ€" sidered as rewards granted by a Foreign Sovercign. for services rendered mccording to the purport of elause 2 of these Regulations. They must bo rather considered as personal favours bestowed on British Subjects by British Sovereigns, and as havâ€" ing no reference to services rendered to the Foreign Crown of Hanover 9. When a British Subject has received the Royal permission to accepta Foreign Order, he will at any future time be allowed to accept the decoration of a higher class of the same Order to which he may have become eligible by the inâ€" crease of rank in the foreign service or in the serâ€" viceof his own country, or any other distinctive mark of honor strictly consequent upon the acceptâ€" ance of the original Order, and common to every person upon whom such Order 1s conférred. 7. The warrant signifying Her Majesty‘s permisâ€" sion may, at the request and at the expense of the persbn who has obtained it, be registerod in the College of Arms. 4 8. Every such warrant as aforesard shall contain a clause providing that Her Majesty‘s license and permission does not guthorize the assamptien of any style, appelation, rank, precedence, or privilege appertaining to a Knight Bachelor of Her Majesty‘s When such warrant shall have been signed by the Queen, notification thereof shall be inserted in the @azrate, stating the service for. which the Foreign Order has been conferred. If the service has been performed in time of peace, the notifications must be made within two ears after the date of such service., 5. After such notifications shall have been reâ€" ceived, Her Majesty‘s Principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs shall, if the case comes within the conditions prescribed by the present Regulaâ€" tions, and arise from nayal or military services beâ€" fore the enemy, refer it to Her Majesty‘s Principal Becretary of State forthe War Department preâ€" viously to taking Her Majesty‘s pleasure thereupon, in order to ascertain whether there may be any obâ€" jection to Her Majesty‘s permission being granted. 2. Such permission shall not be granted to any subject of Her Majesty unless the Foreign Order shall have been conterred in consequence of active and distinguished service before the enemy, cither â€"at sea or in th#l:l ; or unless he shall have been actually and enfffely employed, beyond Her Maâ€" josty‘s dominions, in the service of the Foreign Soveerign by whom the Orderis conferred. 3. The intention ot & Foreign Sovereign to confer upon & British subject the insignia of an Order must be notified to Her Majesty‘s Principal Secreâ€" tary of State for Foreign Affairs, either through the British Minister accredited at the Court of such Foreign Sovereign, or through his Miriister accreditâ€" od at the Court of Her Majesty. A similar reference shall also be made to the commanderâ€"inâ€"chief if the application relates to an Officer in the army or to the Lords of the Adâ€" miralty if it relates to an officer in the navy. 6.
