Mr. John Metcalf, of that company, had been promoted from being a company sergeant to be a regimentâ€" al staffâ€"sergeant and ‘the nonâ€"commissioned officers and men of that company, in order to show their appreciation of the honor conferred upon their company by the Colâ€" onel, and their estecm for Mr. Metcalfâ€"reâ€" solved upon presenting bim with a costly silverâ€"mounted sword and accompaniments. The presentation was made by the Capt.. in the presence of the company in their name and on their behalf, amid enthusiasâ€" tic cheers. Sawyer with a general salute were marched past in slow and quick time, and went through a variety of evolutions with the the precision of a well drilled body of vo}â€" unteers.
