Two sons of Captain Hodgins, of Lordon, Ontario, were in Presâ€" cott, on a visit to Mr. Labatt, their brother, inâ€"law, and yum’d.y they went on the river, in a boat belonging to the former, accomâ€" panied by a lad whose name we did not learn. The boat, by some means or other, was capâ€" sized when ashort distance out, and the three ‘wete precipitated into the water. ‘The young Hodgins, woe were informed, struck out for the shore, but whether from tramp or some pther cause, sank and were drowned. The lad who ‘accompanied them succeeded in grasping ‘the boat and holding on till assisâ€" tance, reached tkim. We did not learn if the bodies were recovered. The family have sympathy of all their acquaintances and friends iw this trying aflliction. Moved by Dr. Codd, seconded by Dr. Mackenzsic, that the Medical Profession of the City of Ottawa, while desirous of upholding the dignity of the profession, and securing the elevation of medical education generally, are nevertheless of opinion ‘that each school should remain separate, and with that object in view, desire to present to th¢é Dominion Medical. Mssociation their undivided opinion that the present Medical Act should be reâ€" pealed, and Dominion legislation, if possible, sought justead. . Dr. VanCortlandt was asked to take the Chair. Reiffenstein in the Sheriff‘s bailiwick , was continued in the Court House yesterday, Sh«ri@f Powell presiding. Mr. Lewis appeared for the Crown, and Mr. Boott for Mre. Reiffenstein. © C. T. Bate was recalled, and being ecxamined by Mr. Lewis said,â€"with regard to the $5,200 the: money was deposited with me to make Charles Reiffenstein eligible as one of the bondsmen. $1,400 were Provincial bonds and t ures, the remainder consisted of ues drawn by Mr, McPherson,. I don‘t ber the numbers of the checques, but supply them toâ€"morrow. William Huntos, sworn, said on the:â€" evenâ€" ing before the seizure I saw Mrs. and Miss Seymour and Mr. Grant Seymour taking William Mills, of the Ordnance Lands Office, sworn, was questioned as to any lands he know of being sold to Mr. Reiffenstein, said on the 16th, of March, 1869, a sale of Ordnance lands took place, and the following lots were bought by. and awarded to George C. Reiffenstein ‘vis.: Lot /No. 50, Mariaâ€"st. soutb, sold for $950, and $95 paid. down Lot No. 51, Mariaâ€"st. south, sold for $870, and $87 paid down. Lot No. 50, Gloucesterâ€"st. nortb, sold for $730, and $73 paid. Lot No. 51, Gloucesterâ€"st. north, sold for $650, and $65 paid down, Total value of lots $3,200. Total amount thereon, $320. The money was pald by G C. Reiffenstein, and he signed the chegue and the sales book. Archibald €. Mawbray, manager of the Ontario Bank, ‘gave evidence‘ that George C. Reiffonstein on the day of his arrest transâ€" tetred $5,547.54 to the credit of the Receiver General,. That he then bad to hbis credit in the Savings Bank $75796, which was subseâ€" quently reduced to a small balance.
