If this delay rests with the Provincial Government, 1 can soarcely be wrong in inferring that they do not attack that 1importance to ‘ the address which ca its face it would appear to deserve. 1 lose, however, no time in acknowledging it. The House of Assembly request to be inâ€" formed, first, whether should the Dominion of Canada claim to be mide independent, Her Majesty‘s Government are prepared to acquiese in such a measure and to perâ€" mit the Dominion to assume the posi tion of a free and independent nation, ana secondly, whether if the people of any one | of the Confederate Provinces dissatisfied | with the Confederation, desired indepenâ€" | dence, Her Majesty would be graciousiy * | pleased to set it free.
