In the City Hall yesterday afterncoon at two o‘clock the successful candidates for Wellington Ward in the late elections were formally declared eleciecd. _ This formal declaration was necessary from the fact that the Ward had been divided into two divisions, having. a polling place in each. All the Aldermen elect were preâ€" sent except Mr, Rows, who was detained by business from attending. . But few of the electors were present. even if they had he did not know but what they could get over these difficulties too. (Laughter.) He had not much to say, for as yet ho had no Mumicipal Sins to anawer for, nor were there any subjecis before him to discuss. The electors had imposed a trust in him, and he hoped he would prove worthy of their ccnlidence. He again tninked the electors, and. his friends; the latter for their sealous exorâ€" tions to secure his return. Mr. Bangs said he was a man of few words at the Board or outside of the Board, but he heartily thanked those who had elected him, and he might say also those who had worked against him (Laughter), for had they succeeded he would have been defeated, and he did not know but what that might have beean the best thing for him and perhaps for the city (Laughter.) The explanation was easily given woula not take up much time. some two years ago Mr. Perry, the Cilyy meu purchased a 3-nmy Oof round ar logs for the use of the Corporation, wyin‘lonh-ivomu.mmiufoot. ‘hen the bill came into the Council he with others objected to the price. and statéed he could buy cedar shewn and ready to lay down from two cents to two cents and a half per foot. However, the people had now made their choice and must avide by it. He was certain not a rote had reâ€" corded tor him bu*t what was given from conscientious motives. te bhad not exâ€" erted himself to any extraordinary extent to secure his election. _ If he had done so he might have been successful. How: ever, he was content as it had turned out ; he bhud run and had not been successful ; he would have more time to look after his business and to himself. â€" He was glad to see the election go off so quistly ; in f.ct he had never witmessed a more orderly contest than that of the Kastern Dirision. He wis glad to see the late o ntest conducted with such good feeling.
