The principle upon which the School was foundâ€" ed is similar to that at Port Hope. It is the ouly first class Church School in the Dioâ€" cese of Ontario, and, therefore fillsa vacancy which must have been felt among the membe.s of the English Church for an educational institution of this kind. The objects for which the School was established are : To impart a sound eduâ€" cation ; preparing pupils for entrance at the Universities, professional and comâ€" mercial pursuits,Zand to maintain among them a faithful adherence both in docâ€" trine and practice to the Church of Engâ€" and ; to place such an education withiu the reach of persons of limited means, by reducing the ordinary scale of school expenditure to the lowest possible amount compatible with prudence and comfort ; ‘ to provide specially for the sous of clergy and others residing in the Diocese of Ontario. Such an institution, located so lavourably, is sure to fi" into great sigâ€" nificance in a very short time, and will prove a very able mediam for the prepaâ€" New Edinburgh ration of studeuts for professions of all | kinds. / The terms for boarders are very | moderate, being ounly $50 per term. hose who intend ertering their sons for the coming term sboo‘!d apply at once to Principal Drewe, Bell‘s Corners. THE TIMES, OTTAWA, THURSDAY DEUEMBER,‘ 28 i1816 At 10:30 last nivht a man by the name of Bratton alias McDonald, was arrested by the Police for the robbor{ of pork and f wl from the Gleeson Hotel, York street. He had, it seems, established a safe means of communication with the back kitchen of the hotel, and already carried awayâ€" pieceâ€"mealâ€"half a barrel of pork and two turkoys, some of which (he had disposed of, and was returning to clean the place out in a systematic manner when he was captured by the Police, who had received word from Mr. Gleeson of the mysterious disappearance of his pork. He was taken to :fie station and placed in the cells. Kngwing thatÂ¥his punishment would not be light he resolved to make an effort for libérty and set about it in a manner that reflects credit (of a peculiar kind) on him for his tact and perseverance. He was confined inâ€" a cell which at some former time had been torn away by a burglar in an attempt at escape. There is a space, therefore, faid bare in the ceilâ€" ing over two cells adjoining, made b{ the aforesaid tearing away of a stretch of lath and plastering troughh which a man CAN OONYENIENTLY CRAWL and get across to the space between the cells and the council chamber, after which an escape is easy enough. In fact, a man did get through there at one time, (a burglar) and caused considerable astonishment to the police when they found he hed disappeared. It was only after an afvernoon‘s search he was found travelling about at his leisure in the space and having the whole run of that part of the structure. If he were at all ACQUAINTED WITH GEOMETRY he could have got clear off, but he blunâ€" dered in trying to find his way through the roo{ instead of â€"as a scientific burglar who was master of his trade shouldâ€" making his way to the council chamber and bursting open the door. Our friead Bratton, alias MeDon:ld, got through all right, or at least was up all but his legs, which made a noise that attracted the attention of the officer in charge, P. C. O‘Leary. The noe, coupled with the laughter of women in the next cell at his ludicrous appearance, drew the attention of the constable, who quickly : i PROOURED A BROOMâ€"HANDLE and poked him till he was forced to descend. He was then removed to a safer cell, and the women put in that which he had â€"vacated. The ?wt is that this station is not strong enough to hold the‘ men of strong will and varied reâ€" sofirces of which our criminal population is ttomposed, and the sooner & proper police station is constructed the better.
