The success of our Silver Bell Ball and the many requests to have more such social affairs prompted us to plan another special dance for the community. The Civic Centre will be transformed into a lovely ballroom at which the King and Queen of Hearts will reign as host and hostess. Many door and spot prizes for all and favours given to the ladies will win your hearts. A midnight buffet will be served by Helen and John Walker of the Brooklea Club. Tickets will be available by calling Contact and reser- vations will be taken for your party if booked well in advance. The tickets are $14 per couple, which includes the buffet. Only 200 tickets will be available, so make your reservations early. Tommy Crowe's Orchestra will play from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The Midland Pipes and Drums will again lead us in a Grand March to start the evening with a happy flair. Hopefully, the whole group will perform for a short time while the crowd gathers before the Grand March. A committee is already busily making plans and preparing theme material for the Ball. We know it will be a wonderful event and hope to see many of Contact's friends there. Contact Credit Council A concerned group of men involved in financial matters, representatives from banks, finance companies, Credit Bureau, professional accountants and Credit Counselling, will form a panel to answer questions to give financial guidance. With many industrial layoffs in this area, concern for the tight money situation prompted these men to offer their experience to help others. The program will be shown over cable Channel 12 on Thursday, January 23, from 6 to 7 p.m. The first part will introduce the public to these approachable representatives, to become knowledgable about their experience and who they are. The second half will be an open-line program where we ask that you have questions ready to ask and have answered on the air. The number to call will be 526-7905. This is a fine gesture by a group who can be of assistance at this difficult time: they are to be commended. Planning and appearing on the program are Brian Parr, Paul Mattar, Don Camin, Harvey Freedman, and Verne LeClaire. I will appear with them to, hopefully, ask some useful questions and to introduce each on to the listening audience. Through Contact we receive many calls for assistance with money matters. This contribution could be of great value to anyone who is sincerely trying to help themselves. Budgets, loans, credit, credit cards, etc. represent some areas of discussion. Be sure to formulate questions and have them ready for Thursday, January 23, from 6 to 7 p.m. on Cable 12. If this program is successful and useful, plans are to continue on a regular basis. A column will also appear in the Midland Times in which questions will be answered. Send questions to the Times office, or call Contact at 526-9333. UIC and Manpower Talk Show An open-line show will be held on Cable 12, January 22, from 7 to 8 p.m., with Unemployment Insurance public relations officer Leighton Smith and Manpower represen- tative Bob Rehm. Have questions ready to phone in. Youth AA A newly-formed group of young people has been formed to assist anyone who has a drinking problem. The meetings take place weekly on Monday nights at 8:30 p.m., St. Margaret's Church, side entrance on Hugel Ave. and Third Street, Midland. You are most welcome to attend. Al-Anon A strength to the family of the problem drinker -- Tuesdays 8 p.m. St. Margaret's Church, Midland. Al-a-Teen For the children of the problem drinker is held at the same time. RVRORERVRORXRY WHAT'S HAPPENED TO MASTOID OPERATIONS? Thirty-five years ago Mastoiditis, an in- flammation of the mastoid bone cells located behind the ears, was responsible for many operations which left unsightly scars. Now, a prescription for a few dollars worth of medication, if taken in time, makes an operation unnecessary. But, any pain about the ear should receive im- mediate medical attention. You save sickness time and perhaps even your life when you con- sult a physician. "A great many people entrust us with their prescriptions, health needs and other pharmacy products. However, that is not the reaction of officials at three hospitals in the area, and they have completed plans for action to be taken should a disaster causing bodily harm strike the North Simcoe area surrounding Penetanguishene and Midland. Along with Penetanguishene General Hospital and Midland's St. Andrews Hospital, the Mental Health Centre at Penetanguishene has agreed to a comprehensive plan for action to be taken in case of disaster. The Mental Health Centre, although it is not a treatment centre for physical health problems, is nevertheless prepared to accept a major role in the event of disaster. MHC is prepared to accept immediately up to 150 disaster cases and evacuees who do not require surgery or major medical care. Conceivably, if major medical care space in the two general hospitals reached a point of being at a premium, they could evacuate patients not requiring that type of care to the Centre. Should MHC become in- volved in event of disaster, the plan provides for almost instant recall of the entire Mental Health Centre staff within a matter of minutes. In addition, plans have been formulated for an- nounements to be made over radio station CKMP regarding the disaster, and any staff outside the reach of a phone would report for duty on hearing the report. In the event of the disaster plan going into action, the three shift system would become void for the time being and all personnel would report on a 12-hour shift basis beginning in the morning and evening. Triage and care area have been designated as well as a work distribution centre. The clinical records section will become an information centre for the duration of the emergency. MHC has also provided subject to the im- patient that, mediate TO OUR NEW LOCATION requirements in the Centre, medical personnel would be made available to the general hospitals if required. In addition to planning for external disaster, provision has been made for action to be taken in case of internal disaster at MHC. To those who think it cannot happen here, it is pointed out that one type of unforseen disaster occurred in Windsor last year when a freak tornado demolished part of a curling rink and injured a number of people. Because hospitals there had a disaster plan drawn up, at least two institutions were prepared within minutes to accept injured people.
