OD ty see] MHC seeking homes for discharged Do you have spare room in your home for anywhere from one to a dozen people? Do you like people, and have you a compassion for those less fortunate than yourself? With some direction and assistance from professional persons would you like to become involved with people of that sort and at the same time earn some extra in- come? If your answer to these questions is yes, or even maybe, then probably you are one of the persons being sought by the Mental Health Centre in Penetanguishene John McDonald, social worker at MHC, is seeking accommodation in selected homes for patients who will be discharged in the future Back in 1964, the Ontario government passed the Homes for Special Care Act which included provision for nursing home care as well as homes for ambulatory patients who are able to be up and about and care for their own physical needs. It is this latter classification which is presently of par- ticular interest to the Mental Health Centre. Besides placing the patients back in the com- munity, where it is found many progress more favourably than in an in- Stitution, there is the matter @ special ort |-BEAM DRAPERY TRACK Save! Present levels of payment provide for $7.50 daily for each patient ac- commodated. This compares with a cost of approximately $40 per patient day to keep them in hospital In the main, the ambulant patients for whom homes are being sought, are those who have been in mental hospital for years and either no longer have a family, or whose family is no longer in a position to care for them. These patients have overcome their mental illness, and in general are able to look after their own physical needs. They require no treatment program, but are simply unable to be completely self-sufficient or self-supporting. They require a family home situation where they can be with other people and receive some supervision in a family home setting. Special care homes of this type are inspected and licensed by a special branch of the Department of Health. This branch also provides an on-going service of super- vision and consultation, plus care for the patient when anything unusual occurs, such as developing physical illness A few homes of this type have already been | established in the area served by the Mental Health Centre and are operating quite successfully. However, there is still a shortage throughout the hospital's catchment area which in- cludes the Country of Sim- coe, the southerly portion of the District of Parry Sound, and the District of Muskoka to a point between Camgridge and Huntsville. Achievement Days for homemaking ciubs by Susan M. Stanbury A number of 4-H homemaking club programs are presently underway in North Simcoe. In January, the project "A Touch of Stitchery" began. Members have gained insight into the world of colour and design and how to establish your own designs for em- broidering. They have learned a variety of stitches to complete their em- broidered articles. Achievement days for this club will be coming up in April and early May. The morning session is for the club members and leaders but the afternoon is open to anyone wishing to attend. It begins at 1 p.m. with the program to include displays of the many articles the girls have made, their record books and exhibits, demonstrations and skits which the club members prepare themselves. Mark these dates and locations on your calendar: April 5, Elmvale, Huronia Centennial Elementary School; April 12, Wyebridge, Wyebridge Community Hall; April 19, Orillia, Twin Lakes Secondary School; April 26, Minesing, Minesing Central School; May 3, Barrie, Trinity Parish Hall. As this present project concludes a new one for summer begins. Various clubs in the county will be participating in a summer garden club. Members must be 12 by May 1 to be eligible to belong. The theme of the two day workshop for newly elected trustees dealt with trustees roles as members of a corporate body. Reporting to the board meeting, Munnoch noted that trustees, as corporate body members, had power together, but had no power individually, a fact brought up at the conference. There was considerable discussion on the fact that newly elected trustees had little conception of the formal nature of school board meetings. It was the general consensus at the conference, she said, that persons seeking election to school boards should at- tempt to sit in at board meetings prior to seeking election. church directory THE CATHOLIC PARISH OF FLOS Saturday 6:30 p.m. Allenwood 7:30 p.m. Elmvale Sunday 8:00 a.m. Allenwood 9:00 a.m. Phelpston 10:00 a.m. Elmvale 11:00 a.m. Allenwood Confessions -- Before Mass PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN CANADA Minister: Rev.
