150 attend Wyebridge W.I.'s get-together On April 2, the Wyebridge Women's Institute invited the community to a get together in the Community Hall. Approximately 150 - attended. The evening started with a pot luck supper and was followed by an enjoyable program. The entertainment con- sisted of a group from Elmvale under the super- vision of "Mrs. Dove. Taking part were Sheila Harpell, Nancy Trace, Kerry Dove, Bonnie Lawson, Tina Reevie and. Steven (Amazing) Trace. Next were songs and in- strumentals by Heather Fallis, John Currie, Jamie Miller, Miss Pender and Murray Fagan. E. Moreau gave a monologue. All of these artists added greatly to the evening and we are very greateful for their assistance. Displays of 4-H work, quilting, and tailoring were shown. It could be seen that the ladies of the area have been quite busy last winter with leasing results. A special yote of 'thanks was extended to Mrs. Wm. Fallis, who is convener of the Social Committee for her careful planning. ee ee ee eee Audition night being held Midland's newly chartered SPEBQSA chapter has lots of room for men who like to sing, and they are holding another Audition for Admission night on Tuesday, April 29. During this stretch, the team won 12 games while losing only four games. The 0.M.H.A. playdowns began on February 19 against Powasson and ended on April 13 against Dorchester. This team is the first Elmvale team to capture an all- Ontario O.M-H.A. championship for several years and in winning, the team showed great spirit, drive and, most important of all, great ability. The team's per- formance on the ice was atvall times indicative of all the good things that hockey is: as each and every member of the team gave 100 per cent at all times. The team provided its fans with many fond memories in its drive for the all-Ontario title. For instance, no one will forget the tremendous comeback the team made when it was down two games to none in its best of five series against Nobleton. The team continued to skate and play hockey and finally won the series with a convicing 9-5 victory in the deciding game. : All Elmvale and area residents, whether hockey fans or not, are most proud of this team and its ac- complishment this year. Well done, everyone. However, even in victory, there is sadness because of" the tragic death of one team member, Ron deKleyne, in a snowmobile accident on April 5 while the team was playing its final series against Dorchester. We are sure that the team played even a little bit harder in the final series in order to win the championship for Ron who himself was a real champion both on and off the ice. » The members of the Elmvale juvenile hockey team which won the 1975 all- Ontario juvenile DD championship are, from left to right, front row, Paul Craddock, who is the spare goalie, Peter Beardsall, Dan Ritchie, Jeff Columbus, Guy Reevie, Jim Grigg, Greg Giffen, Ross Downey and team mascot Robbie Conn, and, back row, left to right, manager Bill Trace, Mark The champions Archer, Dan Breedon, Ron deKleyne, who died in a tragic snowmobile ac- cident on Saturday, April 5, while the team was involved in its final series against Dorchester, Rick Durnford, Steve Loftus, John Melnyk, John Trace, Ross Walten, Julian Melnyk, coach George Conn and trainer Brian Handy. Missing from this team picture is player Dave Moreau. _ The road to the all-Ontario juvenile DD cham- pionship for the Elmvale juveniles involved 16 games spread out over almost two months. The following is a list of the four series that led to the championship and of the games involved: Starting February 19, best of three series against Powasson 5-4 for Elmvale in overtime 6-5 for Powasson 9-3 for Elmvale Starting March 4, best of five series against Nobleton 6-3 for Nobleton 3-1 for Nobleton 4-2 for Elmvale 7-2 for Elmvale 9-5 for Elmvale Starting March 20, best of five series against Stirling 6-5 for Stirling 5-4 for Elmvale 7-5 for Elmvale 6-3 for Elmvale Starting April 2, best of seven against Dorchester 17-5 for Elmvale 8-46 for Elmvale 11-5 for Elmvale 8-7 for Elmvale in overtime ] PALACE HOTEL WEEKEND ENTERTAINMENT Pete King's Band ELMVALE ~) W.C.
