Before burning in a. catastrophic fire in the 1920's, the owners of the hotel, located at the nor- theast end of town where Penetanguishene Bay widens out, prided itself on the "'annual patronage of the best class. of people,' and Stated as their aim "to provide the best first class 1975 hotel at the lowest possible prices, consistent with creditable maintenance." The words come from a pamphlet published early in the century by manager George Robinson, but his service and facilities, by all accounts, lived up to ex- pectations.
