Citizen sports beat Second section Wednesday, June 25, 1975 Scene Recreation by Ron Marchildon Penetanguishene recreation coordinator It would certainly be appreciated if over the next week all people who are planning to register their children for our summer programs would please do so. It makes it extremely difficult to make plans if we do not know the number in- volved in each program, so please register early and help us out. At this writing very few people have registered for Tennis and Sailing. If a greater response is not forthcoming these programs may have to be cancelled. Just another reminder that Lifeguards will be on duty each day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at both Scott Street and Bayfield Park. Please help the Lifeguards by obeying them at all times. Remember they are there for your safety, so please have your children listen at all times. Coming up this Thursday evening in the Arena Lounge will be an organizational meeting to try and form this years executive for the Penetang Junior '"'C" Hurons Hockey team. Anyone who is interested in any way in helping out is asked to come to this meeting which will begin at 8 p.m. : It is very discouraging to see the amount of damage done in our parks already this year. I would like parents to instill in their childrens minds that the parks are for their use and they should not damage them in any way. Your help in this matter would be appreciated. Keep in mind the Centennial Ball Tournament to be held at McGuire Park this Sunday, June 29. Come on out and take in some excellent ball for a very reasonable price. Nor- mally Indians' catcher, Timmons struck out five, Indians win, lose and tie After battling to a 2-2 tie with the Orillia Majors last Tuesday night and losing a close one to Tottenham Saturday night, the Midland Indians edged Newmarket 4-3 in South Simcoe baseball action at the Midland ball park Sunday night. The Indians took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after Indians pitcher Jim Scharlach had retired the Newmarket side in order. Lead off batter Ken Fox singled to left field, took second on a balk, stole third, and scored when the Newmarket second baseman bobbled Bill Beauchamp's' easy ground ball. The score remained 1-0 until the fifth inning, when an Indians error sparked Newmarket into life and almost cost Midland the game. After designated hitter Jim Wesley was hit by a pitch and Dan Cooney flied out to Breen Bernard in right field, catcher Glenn Needler lined out to second baseman Ron Spiker, who threw quickly to Dennis Staunton to try to double off Wesley who had strayed from first base at the crack of the bat. The throw got there first, but Staunton neglected to keep his foot on the bag. With the runner on first base safe, Newmarket's Murray Blight connected on a Scharlach fastball for a two-run homer over the left field fence. With one out at the bottom of the fifth and Scharlach and Staunton on base with walks, Fox doubled to left field sending both runners home. On an appeal to third base, the umpire ruled Staunton had not touched the base, costing Indians one run. Bill Beauchamp's soft grounder, bobbled by the Newmarket shortstop, sent Fox and Spiker home for a 4-2 lead.
