Call Contact 526-9333 Shortly after Contact began about two years ago, we were approached by Public Health with a request to set up an arrangement where social services (people who met the needs of people) could meet frequently. The purpose was to discover more about the services we work with providing opportunity to relate socially on a more personal basis. Previously, Public Health had hosted a lunch meeting in their offices, but time and space was a concern for them. We contacted the new Highland Motel, they agreed to serve a smorgasbord and provide a room at a very reasonable rate. Contact sent notices to all social services and the social Services Luncheon began in the winter of 1974. As many as 80 have attended indicating its need-and worth. After the summer break in the fall of 1974, we made arrangements with the Brooklea Golf Club to host our luncheons where they have continued from October to the present. The date is always the third Wednesday of each month. We have a different chairman each month, one of our excellent community leaders who attend regularly. The chairman asks for announcements of any special event to share with other services and the introduction of new peoples is another important aspect. Each month one service has the opportunity to present their work and purpose, a question answer period follows. We are happy with the fact that this opportunity for people in service to people, meeting regularly, has contributed to greater understanding of each other and to stronger inter agency relationships. Last Wednesday was the last luncheon before the July-August break. The Ministry of Manpower and Immigration, Canada Manpower, presented the program. New to our area, Manager Mr. Don McNee was the speaker. Director of A.R.C. (Adult Retraining Centre under the Association for the Mentally Han- dicapped) Joyce Hamelin, chaired the meeting. On September 17, the third week in September, the luncheons. begin again with Glen Moore of the Simcoe County Board of Education discussing various aspects of school drop outs. Anyone who works with people, industry, clergy, police, service clubs, volunteer services, all social services, etc, are welcome to attend. Please call Contact and we will put your name on our calling list if you are interested and we will see you in September. Contact O.F.Y Our summer youth staff are fully involved with senior citizens who live alone. They are reacting with delight, to meeting our special citizens personally in their homes. The vitality, appreciation, intelligence and friendliness the young people are experiencing in our older generation brings great returns in mutual respect. The goal of Contact O.F.Y. is to involve them in continuing community activities and to plan special individual and group recreational and social events through the summer. Any young person wishing to volunteer to assist with the project would be welcomed by the youth staff. - Call Contact.
