She will work with the following executive: Shirley Holmes, vice president; Doreen Turner, recording secretary; Sister Rena Spooner; corresponding secretary; Shirley Price, treasurer; S. Whittington, Juanita Rourke, publicity; and Charles Coulson, education chairman. The Big Sisters organization was jointly sponsored by the Huronia Social Planning Council and the Quota Club. Eileen Goodburne is the Quota Club represen- tative on the Board of Big Sisters, and Nell Peever represents the Huronia Social Planning Council. David Gordon is the Children's Aid Society representative. Big Sisters provides a range of services to help young girls between the ages of 9 and 16 who may have social or emotional {fficulties. Women who are at least 18 years of age are eligible to become Big Sisters. After screening, Big Sisters attend workshops to enhance their involvement with Little Sisters. They maintain 'contact with their Little Sisters on a weekly basis for at least a year. Big Sisters offer support and supervision during the relationship. As well as active participation by becoming a Big Sister, an individual may assist the program by being a group leader, by driving girls to and from group programs, or by helping with planning and financing. The local Big Sisters Organization will serve the Tiny Tay and Flos areas of Huronia. With a new executive, a bank account and a definite need in the community, the next step is charter application. September 1975 has been set as the target date for launching of the group's activities. The business part of our meeting was held at the home of Beverly Donnon. A letter of appreciation was received from the Salvation Army for our help in canvassing during the Red Shield Appeal. Several letters were received from a number of other organizations asking for donations, bul as the Civinettes are more of a volunteer group rather than a money making club we were not able to help in this way at this time June 25th evening will be spent visiting patients at the Mental Health Centre. A monster bingo was held at the Mental Health Centre for the patients, June 11. Two bingos were set up - one at the Recreation Hall and one in the Bayfield building. The Civinettes are to hold a raffle August 18 at Parkside during the Civitan Bingo. June 17 meeting is last to be held until Sep- tember. The meeting closed with the reading of Georgian course to start in archaeology excavation For the first time this year, Georgian College Summer School of the Arts is offering a course in 'Archaeology Excavation - a unique = opportunity for residents, cottagers and tourists to take part in an actual dig under expert supervision. The course is scheduled for Blue Mountain, July 14-18, Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but, subject to the weather and minimum procedures required indoors, the entire week will be spent at the ex- cavation site - a large late historic Iroquois village site near Collingwood. The course, designed primarily as a learn-by- doing field experience, will be instructed by Charles Garrad, Immediate Past President of the Ontario Archaeological Society. Mr. Garrad is an authority on the Petun (Tobacco Nation or Khiontateronnon / Wy- andotte) Indians of the Blue Mountain area of west Simcoe County and east Grey County, and was Field Director in 1974 for area excavation by Centennial College and the (0) fats Eh? St fe) Archaeological Society. No previous experience is required for the course but a desire to learn, ability to work under direction, and sincere interest in the subject are vital.
