The apartment building, which is being built by the developers of the High Point Mall will be located directly across from St. Joseph's Public Elementary School. Gennaro Debellis, one of the men working to tear down the house said that the blaze started when the roof was accidently pushed off and onto an area where a small fire had been set at the back. The small fire at the back was being used to burn bits of material torn off the house. The only real damage reported was to a tent in the back of a nearby yard. The tent belonging to Jules Vallee was valued at $169 by town police. While young David was warming up in the bullpen his father Murray Cooper was pitching for Caswell's. When his father ran into trouble on the mound the coach hesitated to put David in. The Expos downed Caswell's 12-7. The coach of Caswell's Antiques could not be reached for a comment on the possibility of using young David as a reliever in future games. In Beaumaur subdivision Severances granted developers The Committee of adjustment approved a developer's request to sever 20 lots for the Beaumaur subdivision in the south western part of town. The decision was reached at a meeting last Wednesday night despite the objections of a delegation of nearly 20 John Street residents. The John Street residents were objecting to the developer's (Ves- Bar Developments Limited of Barrie) plans to build semi-detached units on nine of the 20 lots which were severed. Since nine of the lots are technically undersized for semi-detached units the John Street residents were pushing for single family houses on the undersized lots. However, a special exemption from town council allows the developer to build semi- detached houses on the undersized lots. Notices will be sent out to those John Street residents who appeared at last Wednesday's meeting. They will be asked whether or not they approve of the committee of adjustment's decision to allow the severances. If any objections are for- warded to the town office within 21 days they will be sent to the Ontario Municipal Board which will decide if an appeal is warranted. If an appeal is con- sidered necessary the whole appeal process could take up to six months. If not the OMB would probably send notice of its decision to allow the severances back to the town within a month. Even if the severances should eventually be disallowed by the OMB the developer can still build semi-detached units. If severances were rejected by the OMB it would mean that 20 people would be forced to buy each complete semi- detached unit, one half probably for living in, the other half for renting. Severance approval would allow the developer to create 40 lots for 40 owners. Ontario TOWN OF PENETANGUISHENE Kelly blasts Davis gov't Abuses in the legal aid system and the need 'to reduce the bureaucracy of the province's education system are two of the main'issues in this summer's __ provincial election, claimed Liberal Party candidate Margaret Kelly during a visit to Penetanguishene. Kelly, a Barrie social worker, is carrying the Liberal banner in the Simcoe-Centre race against New Democratic Party candidate Paul Wessenger and _in- cumbent Conservative MPP Art Evans. "The administration of justice in this area is an issue for many people," claimed Kelly. The problem, she said, is with the legal aid system which 'allows too much assistance to people charged with crimes. As an example _ Kelly claimed that "'one man in this area cost $24,000 in legal aid" and he's still walking the streets. The long periods of time between when a, person is charged and the actual trial is heard was vited by Margaret Kell as another problem \which needs correcting. Kelly was also critical Staff photo NEW HOLLAND Farm of the high costs of i men education which she Equip ent attributed to an ovenized BEATTY bureaucracy.
