Heather Doughty, Jane Gleadall and Meredith Orr of Coldwater had three girls of the Cheboygan, Michigan, High School Band as overnite guests in their homes last week. Successful participants Carla Ostertag and Rebecca Hass_ have competed successfuly in the Kiwanis Music Festival in Orillia. Carla placed second in solo on guitar for girls 14 years of age and under; and 16 years of age and under, with marks of 79. She played 'Morning Mood" and "'Song of India". Rebecca claimed a third with 79 marks for solo guitar for 12 year old girls and under, playing "Cordoba"'. The girls then joined their talents in a duet of "Our Director" for girls 14 years and under. Their excellent earned them a first place with a mark of 83. This was the highest mark awarded that day. Both girls are pupils of Tom Cathcart of Orillia. The executive plan to have. an old-fashioned family picnic on the grounds at the Log House. This picnic will be on Saturday, June 12, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Bring your own picnic lunch. Beverages will be available. There will be games and popcorn for the children. Picnickers are asked to come in costumes resembling those of the pioneers. In case of rain the picnic will be postponed one week. At a recent general meeting, Chester Martin presented Canadiana with a hand bell used to start the horse races at the Coldwater Fairgrounds in the 1800's. At that time the fairgrounds were located across the river on Sturgeon Bay Road, where the Graymore house now stands. The next Coldwater Canadiana general meeting will be held on May 26. Horticulturalists induct 24 by E. Lorraine Orr Under the highly skilled hands of Mr. A. Colin from Colin's Flower Shop in Orillia, chrysan- themums and daisies as well as dried flowers and weeds were transformed into delightful displays of floral art at the Huronia Horticultural Society meeting last Thursday evening. Twenty-four new members were welcomed into the Society, bringing the total membership to 136. grades five to eight in Moonstone and Coldwater Public schools have been invited to enter a poster contest to tell about the Flower Show being held by, the,, Horticultural Society on May 19. The posters will be displayed in local store windows as advertisements. Students from grades one to eight in both schools will also be invited to enter a May 19. The halter classes will begin at 10.00 a.m. The children's pony classes are under the direction of Mrs. Diane Godwin. The Western classes will be organized by Art Boyd and Noel Kemp, and the English classes will be arranged by Lionel and Marilyn Rumble and _ family. These people all need and appreciate the many helpers who assist with the plans and arrangements. The club will also operate a food booth. Volunteers are needed to help paint the fences at the Fairgrounds on May 8. The members of the club enjoyed a bowling night recently at the Coldwater Bowling Lanes. Top ladies single was won by Mary Ann Kerr of Orillia and the men's high single by Art Boyd of Moonstone. At the April meeting of the club a film on Horse Care-Lameness, was shown.
