Susan Jones - < Work week trainee Last week was work week for about 60 business course students at Midland Secondary School. The Grade 12 students, including Janet Stanley who's spending the week in the office of the Canada Manpower Centre on Dominion Ave., are dispersed throughout Midland businesses performing various office jobs, as part of school training. Staff photo Jehovah Witnesses to attend Announcement was made this week that approximately 50 Jehovah's Witnesses from the Midland Area have finalized their plans to attend a two day semi- annual circuit assembly in Brampton May 22nd and 23rd. Arthur Allison, spokesman for the group, reported that the assembly would give the Witnesses an opportunity to learn more about how the Bible should affect their everyday lives and would develop the theme "Become Doers of the Word." He said, "We believe that to gain the most in the way of genuine happiness and security in life, it is necessary to become better acquainted with our creator and his will for us. Since the Bible is God's message to mankind we feel a real need to search it through and make practical everyday use of the guidance that it contains. This we have found to be the most successful way of coping with the assembly problems of life." There is an anticipated attendance of over 1,000 delegates from congregations as far north as Huntsville and Parry Sound and south to Barrie. Local ministers are now rehearsing the two- day program which will be presented in lectures, skits and interviews. Two noteworthy parts of the program on Sunday will be the baptism of new Witnesses by water immersion and_ the feature address by Mr. Harold McCallum who oversees the work of Jehovah's witnesses in Northern Ontario and the Maritimes Provinces. He will speak on the subject "Are You Doing What God Requires of You?" The site of the event will be the Johovah's Witness Assembly Hall which is located on High- way 7, a few minutes west of Brampton. Mr. Allison concluded, "We are looking forward to a very informative program this weekend and all sessions will be open to the public. Tay council may purchase grader Tay council will be applying to the Ontario Municipal Board for permission to purchase a road grader, valued at approximately $50,000. Council will be requesting that payment be made partly in 1976 and partly in 1977. Dog control problems Following two meetings with the dog control of- ficer, the township property committee informed council that steps are being taken to more rigidly enforce the dog control bylaw. The committee considered stiffer fines and an in- crease in the licence fee for dogs, but decided to delay that action in order to see if the situation improved. Grant requested The finance committee of council will consider a request for a grant for a new building for the Adult Rehabilitation Centre in Wednesday, Midland at budget time. The centre serves Tay Township in addition to Midland, Penetanguis- hene, Port MeNicoll, Victoria Harbour, and Tiny Township. Next meeting scheduled Council defeated a motion to adjourn to June 10 at 9 a.m. but passed a motion of councillors David Moore and Bob Rhem to hold the next regular meeting on June 10 at 2:30 p.m. Waubaushene water construction Tay council has requested that the Waubaushene P.U.C. hold a public information meeting in Waubaushene concerning the con- struction of new water lines, pumps, and mains on Coldwater Road. A bylaw to allow the construction will sub- sequently be drawn up and forwarded to the Ontario Municipal Board for approval. May 19, 1976, Page 21
