Placements up Officials at Midland's Manpower Centre and the student offices in Midland and Penetanguishene filled a total of 156 regular and 33 casual vacancies during the month of May, reports manager Don MeNee in his month end report. According to McNee, these figures represent an increase over the previous month, but they are down from the same period in 1975. A survey of aréa _manufacturing firms revealed that new hirings were few and far bet- ween. And while some people were taken on as replacements to persons leaving, other firms have been experiencing layoffs. Although the student centres are maintaining a placement level at roughly the same as in 1975, both centres have experienced a 13 per cent decline in vacancies listed so far this year.
