The activities alter- nated each day between Waubaushene. Old Fort Playground, Waverley and Vasey. and were held in the Church and Community halls or parks. The children were taught crafts and games, camp songs, and enjoyed hikes around the Township. They were visited by members of the Fire and Police depart- ments and were able to view the inside of an ambulance. Four teenage girls. namely Wendy McCullough and Jane Robinson of Midland: Cheryl Duffy. of Waverley, and Kathy Snider of Victoria Har- bour. were hired by. Tay council as leaders for two overnight camp-outs at a park on the 8th concession owned by Knox Presbyterian Church. Midland. These girls had attended a _ four-day leadership training course in Barrie. They all had experience in day camp organizing and were proficient in music. art. crafts and sports, and St. John's Ambulance duties. 4 The closing ceremonies were held at Vasev Community Park in the form of a sing-song and cornroast with the parents as invited guests. This project was financed by a $2500 grant from the Ministry of Culture and Recreation as well as donations from local organizations. The cost to the parents was $2 per child. or $6 per family. The recreation com- mittee is pleased with the results of this venture and appreciate the letters from parents com- mending the project. They plan to continue the program next summer.
