I caught things which had escaped me the first time and I was able to appreciate the historical background more fully than I had when I first saw the movie 10 years ago In many ways Doctor Zhivago strikes me as being the Russian equivalent of Gone With The Wind. Both films also have memorable theme songs (Tara's Theme in Gone With the Wind. and Lara's theme in Doctor Zhivago) After a decade. Doctor Zhivago rémains a fine piece of film-making. It not only benefits from fine performers. but somehow every member of the cast seems "'right". Omar Sharif does the best screen work of his career as the poet-doctor Fqually right in their roles are Geraldine Chaplin as his wife: Ralph Richardson as his father-in-law: and Julie Christie as Lara.
