Life aboard Gleneagles She rocks and rolls-but she's home The Gleneagles has been a fixture in Midland Bay for the past month. as it has undergone repairs while waiting for a cargo. Built in 1925 in the _Midland Ship Yards, the ( @pker is the oldest Mhember of the Canada Steam Ship Lines, and is home for 33 men and women. 'She -rocks, she rolls, she's my home, she's my soul, she's my ship', is a Sailor's saying that pretty well sums up the crews feelings about their life aboard the Gleneagles. For fireman Wayne Ostermaier and mechanical assistant Bill Jenkins -the constant rocking of the ship is a minor irritant compared to their working con- ditions. They work in the engine room where temperatures hover around 120 degrees F. "You just have to learn to live with it" says Bill. The 'dumptruck', as she is affectionately known, is popular among sailors of the Great Lakes. "Everyone wants on this boat," says Captain Charles Robinson who is relieving Lou McKeown of Midland. "She's slow, makes short runs and has proven her reliability". That fact that she's also too old to sail trecherous Lake Superior, is bound to make her popular with her crew. The crew was recalled from leave last week as repairs were completed and a cargo assigned.
