at Sav =. as + Election platforms Art Stewart For the past four years I have been a member of town council, and three of those years I have had the privilege of being the Deputy-reeve, repres- enting Penetanguishene at County Council. I have always been an active member in our community and am presently treasurer of the Lions Club, Director of the Chamber of Com- merce and Chairman of Public Works. For years they said it couldn't be done, but part of Fox Street is now paved, and in 1977 I would like to see it completed. The paving of Robert Street is now being planned at County for 1977 also. Through the help of the Public Works budget this For councillor - Ray Ray Baker My concerns are not in the Sports or Recreation fields; I can offer nothing there. My concerns are the "gut" issues of Housing...Zoning...Plan- ning..Communication -- to the' People...NIP...and RRAP. For years I've served on Local and Area Boards and seen a _ need...- communication. People are baffled by the red tape. I've listened to seventy residents appeal their zoning for three hours...and leave baffled. The following is needed as a start A free information pamphlet showing Town Employees, Council, Boards, Committees, and Sub-Committees, with meeting dates at which the Public are welcome. So you know who to see and when, what route to follow, and where the tax dollar goes. It will prevent loss of time and patience, and avoid frustrations all around. Through my weekly newspaper column, I would explain the latest bylaws and current events, keeping you up-to- date on what is hap- pening, NIP and RRAP (Improvements and personal loans) As Chairman of this For reeve - Art Stewart | year, Poyntz Street and Centre Street were able to be repaved. I have lived in Penetanguishene for 37 years and would like to see us keep our own Identity and our own Council, and would not like to see Regional Government -take that away from us. The place to fight this is at County Council, and with your help and support I would be able to do this. I would like to thank you for your support in the last election, and would appreciate your support on December 6 for Reeve of Penetanguishene. Baker Committee, it has been a pleasure to see it go from a concept, to $1,000,000, going into the West and East End areas of town. The secret is...Public participation and Municipal. commitment. The results speak for themselves. In Summary Some aspects. of Municipal Administration are working well. Others need more help. Public involvement and two-way information are vital. I make only one election promise -To work hard on - your behalf and keep you informed. I need your support to face the "gut" issues. With twenty years of Business Administration and a solid track record or Public Service, I ask for your vote. on December 6th. Thank you Ray Baker, 51 Peel Street For councillor - Bryan Byng Bryan Byng My platform involves listening to the residents and. making sure that their views are presented to council. There have been too many closed meetings in the past and I would try to cut these down. I believe that if the members of council have an opinion, they should not be afraid to state it publicly. Church and Fox Streets should be paved. For years, the residents of these streets have paid their taxes and still the town has not done the job. If the town does not have ,they money to do the whole job, they could at least pave a few blocks at a time until both streets are finished. We have all sorts of parks, but where are the playgrounds for the children? Are swings, sandboxes and _ slides really that expensive that the town cannot provide some of this equipment? Every winter the town hires men to cut trees and clean our parks. What's wrong with building some sidewalks? We need jobs for our residents. The town should actively encourage industry to locate here. I would be available to the people at all times and I would report' to the residents regularly, outlining what is hap- pening on council. Mary Rogers I wish at this time to speak to the Citizens of Penetanguishene with respect to my platform date of December 6th, 1976. Firstly - I do not believe in making campaign promises - I believe in facts and actual per- formance. Secondly - I am running for the position of Councillor in. order to serve the people of Penetanguishene as I have done in the past, with HONOUR, IN- TEGRITY and HONEST DESIRE TO SERVE. My track record speaks for itself. I believe in responsible government, a government serving the need of the people, and keeping Penetanguishene economically sound _believing strongly ministration. Thirdly - I have always believed in progress through good orderly direction and this fact has borne fruit over the past few years. Your desires and aspirations for the fee le bauer e of Penetanguishene are shared by myself, and I will do everything within my power to deliberate on important matters as I have done in the past, that only hard. work and dedication can effect the needs and desires of the (ont SHAN 2) VERS of Penetanguishene. VOTE ROGERS FOR COUNCIL DECEMBER Vernon Farrow For Cou neil - Hubert Charlebois Penetanguishene is moving ahead faster than it ever has. I have been part of that move. In the ° past four years, I have been on council and have kept on this positive track. I am working for you, for our town. Being a member of: The Penetanguishene Legion, the Chamber of Commerce, a past president of The Lions Club a main street business man for twelve years, and, only thirty- three years old, the decision is yours. I have the ability and interest to serve you. I have never been afraid to state my views as you well know...give me the chance to serve you again. Finish the year on a positive note. _-Tllgive you mileage for your VOTE, For deputy-reeve of Penetanguishene - Vernon Farrow Thank you for the op- portunity to place before the --~ electors of Penetanguishene reasons for offering myself as candidate for deputy- reeve. Ihave no "platform"' as such, because I do not believe any. one single person can develop a platform to be used by a governing body of nine persons. However, I do have something to offer to the electors which I feel is of prime value: ex- perience, and a desire to serve. My newspaper work has provided me with 30 years of experience reporting council procedures. It has been a wide experience in- cluding Penetanguishene Council, other urban councils, township, and Simeoe County Council. Being now in a position which permits me to have the required amount of time, I have decided to offer yay services. I promise to watch every move and attempt to provide the citizens with the best level of service commensurate with a-policy of holding the tax structure at a reasonable level. I will co- operate with all other members to provide that which is required, and I will staunchly oppose that which I do not believe is in the interest of the municipality. At the County level, I will endeavour to secure the best legislation, keeping in mind my particular duty to my own municipality. Your vote for myself as deputy-reeve on December 6 is humbly sought.
