The purpose of the meeting was to discuss contract disputes between 29 Health Units in the province and their nurses It was announced, by the Public Health Nurses at the Hamilton Went- worth Health Unit, that a contract has been ratified with that Board of Health, which allows for volun- tary binding arbitration in the future. They also reached a monetary settlement which does not reflect parity with hospital nurses, but amounts to about a 12 per cent increase, retroactive to February 1976. This contract expires in 2 months. The nurses at the meeting were interested to note that the newly elected President of the Association of Boards of Health is Mrs. Ritchie a member of the negotiating committee for the Hamilton Went- worth Board of Health for those Health Units which have not yet settled (Simcoe County being one of them) the Nurses agreed that arbitration for the future remains imperative. They -are prepared to look at monetary proposals by the Boards. The nurses intend to call in mediators to help bring about a fair settlement in future negotiations.
