-- I EL ES A Sn i Me Sea District Christmas dinner for Eady residents by E. Lorraine Orr The community spirit was very much in evidence last Wednesday when the people of Eady met with their neighbours at the Community hall for a Christmas dinner and concert, The master of ceremonies was Bob McFarland who's_ in- troduction of the per- formers was interspersed with comical Christmas anecdotes. Poems of Welcome were recited by Donna Walker and_ Barton Spence The junior comprising Walker, Walker, choir, Gregory Adrienne Cathy McFarland, Donna Walker, Bruce Brown and Rhonda Walker, all wearing white surpluses, sang, Away in a Manger, O Come all you Faithful, and Rudolph. Solos were by Adrienne Walker and Bruce Brown Steve Morton gave' a recitation of a poem appropriately titled Santa Claus. Accordianist Jean Morton played several Christmas hymns and accompanied her brother Kevin when he sang Jingle Bells A Christmas poem was recited by Clark Spence and his brother Barton displayed his musical telent on the piano. Mildred Walker, Helen Walker and Evelyn Reid joined together to per- form a skit about the arrival of a new bachelor minister. Gregory Walker played a toy drum in ac- companiment for his sister Adrienne' s recitation of "'Drummer Boy." The seasonal songs of I'll be Home for Christ- mas, and Chestnuts Roasting by an Open Fire, were sung by Howard Baker, Principal of Moonstone Public School, accompanied by his wife Alice on the piano. They then gave a beautiful rendition of Silent Night with a duet of guitar and xylophone. Mrs. Baker filled the hall with the sound of tinkling bells when she played "Silver Bells'? on the xylophone. A story about the months of the year was sung by Chery] Goss. Several ladies of the community presented a comical skit titled "The Sewing Circle" ably assisted by Sharon Bell Tina Dobson and Mark Tinney sang a duet of Silent Night. "Christmas in Florida" was a poem read by Edward Goss. A family mouse called "Oswald" was the subject of a poem read by Mrs. Evelyn Reid. Mrs. Reid thanked the performers and those in the audience for helping to make the evening a success. All the children then gathered on the stage to sing Jingle Bells. During their song a sudden shout was heard outside the hall announcing the arrival of Santa Claus. Jolly St. Nick bounced down the aisle to the glee of all the youngsters, shaking hands and questioning them about their good behaviour during the year. Santa told the children that it was so stormy outside -- that Rudolph wanted to continue onto Moonstone without stopping at Eady. However Santa said "No- way man!" He then gathered the youngsters around him to give eacha bag of goodies. His Ho, ho, ho, echoed through the hall as he returned to his sleigh, leaving a feeling of good cheer among good neighbours. news E.
