Mrs. N. Keefe read the minutes of the 1976 annual meeting followed by the Presidents' address from Mrs. Betty Rumney. It was learned that plans are in operation for this year's Midland Fall Fair. The dates for 1977 are September 15-16-17. Secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Keefe, gave the financial report and Mr. Hugh Riesberry listed the present directors during his report from the nominating committee. Allen Mosely was elected as the new second vice-president while all other officers remain the same for the end of their term. The list of committee chairmen and _ their members was reviewed and updated for the coming year. It was mentioned at this time that new judges for the Handiwork and Domestic Science sections would be 'required for this year's Fall Fair. Exhibitors in 1977 may be viewing a different style of prize list than that of previous years. Fur- 'ther plans will be made in the near future regarding the layout of the list booklet.. The 1977 Midland Fall Fair will again feature the popular Horse Pull contest since it was so successful last year despite rainy weather Midland Library Board named Officers and Com- mittees of the Midland Public Library Board for 1977 are: Chairman - Mr. L.C. Davidson; Vice-Chair- man - Mrs. Merle Gar- dhouse; Secretary - Mrs. Helen Delaney. Finance Committee - Mrs. M. Gardhouse, Chairman; Mrs. Carolyn Ostrowski; Mr. Harry Cox. Property Committee - Mrs. Sheila Moore, Chairman; Mrs. Rita Smith; Dr. James Shaw. Policy and Planning Committee - Mr. F.J.P. Consitt, Chairman; Mrs. Carolyn Ostrowski; Dr. James Shaw. Dr. James Shaw was recently appointed to the library board by the town council, taking the place of the late Mr. A.H. Tweedle. Mayor Moreland Lynn, is ex- officio a member of the Board. Speakers at the con- vention discussed the topics of how to improve your fair, dressing up your fairgrounds, animal health regulations, available grants, and the survival of the small fairs. It was noted that the one day fairs must expand to a two day fair in order to keep in operation. Displays of outstanding events from various fairs were set up for delegates to view. In the ladies section, a craft room was filled with prize winning exhibits of quilts, projects made from recycled materials, art work, and displays and crafts of the junior fair section.
