Entertainment 1976 award winner 'Rocky' back by popular demand by Terry Dupuis Exorcist II: The Heretic: The long-awaited sequel to the 1973 supernatural smash _ hit The Exorcist is coming soon to the Odeon Theatre in Midland. The original Exorcist starred Linda Blair as a young girl who was possessed by the devil, Ellen Burstyn as the distraught mother, and Jason Miller and Max Von Sydow as two priests who attempt to exorcise the evil spirit from the girl. The 1973 production of The Exorcist was directed by William Friedkin from a novel by William Peter Blatty. "Luv" ran 902 nights in New York, over the course of 26 months of drawing guffawing audiences, and it was one of the most popular plays to have reached Broadway in years. It has not been just Broadway's hilarious hit, however. Twenty-six countries have luvved it. "Luv" derides many of the postures and im- postures of modern men and women who spout half-digested Freudian jargon about love instead of simply being in love, and it shoots uproarious barbs into the rites and wrongs and fads of what passes for love among modern sophisticates. Only three players are in the cast, Ted Follows (Milt) and Dawn Greenhalgh (Ellen) as the in-and-out-of-love pair, and Eric House (Harry) as a life-defeated former classmate of Milt, who is saved from jumping off a bridge (because "everything is meaningless") and im- pressed into becoming Ellen's husband, until Milt wants her back again. The three of them, according to Time Magazine's glowing review when the comedy first opened, "go through an inferno of cocktail- party griefs, a slapstick, tongue-wagging satirical jaunt of crippling hilarity." "Luv'"' is being directed by Leon Major, the Artistic Director of Toronto Arts Produc- tions. It's setting of a mid- point on one of New York's great soaring bridges, from which over- the-rail dives are several times threatened and twice uproariously ac- complished, has been designed by Jack Timlock, the lighting for this unusual scene has been designed by Dino Ventresca and _ the costumes for the trio are designed by Barbara Suarez. The play "Luv" will be performed Monday, August 15 through to and including Saturday, August 20, 1977 at 8:30 p.m. There will be a matinee at 2:00 p.m. on both Tuesday and Thursday.
