Only three players are in the cast, Ted Follows (Milt) and Dawn Greenhalgh (Ellen) as the in-and-out-of-love pair, and Eric House (Harry) as a life-defeated former classmate of Milt, who is saved from jumping off a bridge (because "everything is meaningless") and im- pressed into becoming Ellen's husband, until Milt wants her back again. The three of them, according to Time Magazine's glowing review when the comedy first opened, "go through an inferno of cocktail- party griefs, a slapstick, tongue-wagging satirical jaunt of crippling hilarity."
