No. 1 Phelpston, Ontario LOL 2K0 This book is about a boy who received a knife from his Uncle Oz before setting out on a trip to French Salt Lake to bring Isaac to town. Page 16, Wednesday, August 10. 1° The boy's name was Andy Brown and he was brave and he and his friend had many exciting situations with Indians and had to fight with them several times during their travels. One of the most exciting parts was when the three canoes came by the boat with five Chickamauga Indians shooting flaming arrows from their canoe and Andy shot one in the shoulder. During their trip they were stranded on mountains, were carried over a large waterfall and always had the Indians watching and waiting after them. Andy's dog, Silas, was bitten by a rattlesnake among many other in- teresting happenings, until finally they com- plete their wanderings and meet with Uncle Oz at French Salt Lake. A very interesting book which I highly recom- mend. Dubs By Sharon Taylor Elmvyale, Ontario The Wilderness Family is an adventure book about a family who once lived in a city and moved into the wilderness to get away from all the noise and pollution. In this book they have hardships and always have to be lear- ning something new in order to survive. There are no schools so they have to initiate their own studies. The general idea is that people can survive in the wilderness if they learn from nature and work together as a family, especially if they are persistent and don't give up easily. Pat, the mother, was very discouraged for a time and wanted to give up, but decided to give one more try and even- tually everything worked out. They had visits from all kinds of animals but when Three Toes, a giant grizzly bear, comes around and attacks everyone and everything in sight, there are some exciting moments. This book would be recommended for nature lovers and outdoors types and I enjoyed it very much. There is also a movie made which has been based on this book. Ming was very shocked and wondered what her father would be like. When Ming and her uncle George went to pick her father up at the train Station, she was very nervous but she really wanted to get to know him. Her father, Mason Campbell, had brought some wooden crates with him and many people wondered what was in- side of them. Once they were home, Ming's father took all the crates into the barn. Ming soon realized that her father was interested in birds, because that's what was in_ those crates. Ming's father told her many things about birds and decided to let her help him all the time. The next day Mason Campbell was happy to wake and not see those walls all closed around him ;.as well as look outside. and not see walls between him and the 'horizon. TI enjoyed the story and I learned a lot about birds and how to take care of them. I also learned about people. To be honest with you, there wasn't a thing I disliked in the story. There was the odd flash- back but that made the story all the more in- teresting. I also feel that a lot of people would enjoy this story because there wasn't a dull moment.
