The problem that needs solving each year is the determination of a "fair"' price. A farmer with surplus corn knows that he has to dry and truck his crop to a local feed company for a cash sale. He will not be too willing to sell his corn for less than the quoted price at the mill, less drying and trucking. A farmer wishing to buy from a neighbour will not be interested in paying more for corn than a local feed aealer's delivery price. It is obvious that the advantages of direct selling must be shared by grower and feeder. Three decisions are needed-- who pays for tran- sportation, weighing and moisture testing? If the elevator price for dry shelled corn is $1.80 per bushel and if the moisture level of the corn to be sold is 28 per cent, then the farmer selling can deduct 21 cents for drying and 12 cents for trucking. This leaves $1.47 per bushel. The farmer buying would be looking at a delivery price of $2.22 per bushel. Moisture testing can be done at the Elmvale Agricultural Office provided that a 2 lb.
