Badminton Quilty, Weissflog champs Mary Pat Quilty and Chris Weissflog are the champions of the Midland Badminton Club for 1978. The pair captured most of the silverware at the tournament held recently at Midland Secondary School, including the mixed doubles crown. Quilty won the girls' singles event defeating Susan Lamers, while Weissflog fought off Gary Crawley to win the boys' singles title in three games. Weissflog teamed with Crawley to win the boys' doubles event beating Chris Cote and Lee Crowe and went on to capture his third trophy when he combined with Quilty, to win the mixed doubles title from Patti Cox and Crawley. Register beef cattle by May 31 Beef calf producers will have an opportunity to register their beef cows on Ontario's 1978 Plan no later than May 31, 1978. The count is to be taken effective April 1st and is to include cows that have calved or are bred to calve in 1978. The enrolment fee is $8.00 per cow and this fee is to be sent with your registration form. The cheque is to be made payable to the Treasurer of Ontario. The support price for stocker calves is set at 51.5 cents per pound based on a 450 lb. calf and an 85 per cent calf crop. In other words, for each 10 cents that the market price falls below 51.5 cents you will receive $38.25 per eligible cow. New participants are asked to pick up their enrolment forms at the Elmvale Agricultural Office. Private Treaty Sale A private treaty sale of station tested beef bulls will be held on May 12, 1978 at the Arkell Research Farm south of Guelph. The sale starts at 1:00 p.m. and will feature 90 high performance bulls. Gains are provided for the first 112 days on test. There are thirteen breeds on test at Arkell, over 35 per cent of the bulls are Hereford. Workman's Compens- ation Workman's Compen- sation is compulsory for all farm workers both full defeated Susan Lamers and Patti Cox in the girls' ' doubles final. Chris Weissflog dropped the first game of the boys' singles final against Crawley 7-15, but came back to win two straight by scores of 15-7 and 15-10. Weissflog and Crawley edged out Cote and Crowe winning 15-8 in the first game and 18-14 in the second. The mixed doubles title went to Quilty and Weissflog by a 15-10 score over Patti Cox and Gerry Crawley. Mary Pat Quilty had an easy time of it against Lamers in the girls' singles final, winning in two games by identical 11-2 scores. The girls' doubles final provided the tightest battle of the tournament as Jenny Weissflog and Cindy Leclair were forced to the limit before ousting Lamers and Cox 18-17 and 15-12 Consolation winners were Gord Butch over Dillon Jackson in the boys' singles and Patti Cox over Gayle Patrick in the girls' singles. In the doubles con- solation events, Gord Burtch and Chris Brennan defeated Pierre Robitaille and Danny Lamers to win the boys' event, while Terri Lynn and Gayle Patrick downed Adrianne Brennan and Margaret Gianetto-in the girls' event. Patrick and Burtch combined to win the doubles consolation over Lynn and Peter Thoma.
