Recreation Centre dance by Cindy Lockhart Card party winners were Men's High Louis Preu, Men's Low Clifford Ward, Ladies' High Vi Paterson, Ladies' Low Iona Zab, and the Door Prize was awarded to Lola Rumney. Another card party will be held this Friday night at the Centre, May 16. Don't forget the recreation dance, to be held May 17 at the Elmvale Community Hall from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The band is "Brandy". Mrs. Grant Ball is a patient at Penetang Hospital and a speedy recovery is wished to her. Glen and Silvanna Brown of Barrie weekended with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Orton Brown. They attended the bowling banquet in Coldwater with them. Wanda of Orillia spent Sunday _with her parents Orton and Eva Brown. The Tuesday night Bowling League of Coldwater held their banquet and dance at Coldwater Legion on Sat. night. A local team won the first series so were the recipients of individual _ trophies. Congratulations to Orton and Eva Brown, Wanda Brown, Royce and Kaye French, and Oonah Curry. Royce also received a special trophy for Men's High Scores. The 78th Annual Meeting of the Simcoe Centre District Women's Institute was held on Thursday, May 8, 1980 at the Waverley United Church. The Theme for 1980 is "'The Year of The Women's Institute -- Looking back with pride and gratitude -- looking ahead with an- ticipation." The morning session started at 9 a.m. with displays, registration Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect. Following this was ratification of district directors .by' Mrs. Donald Harvie, remarks on the theme by Mrs. Donald Jacobs, the report of secretary- treasurer and_ the financial statement. The report of auditors and all correspondence was read. Mrs. Allan _ Drinkill gave president's remarks. The Waverley WI welcomed all in- stitutes in attendance. Resolutions and reports were by Mrs. Ray Tuck. The Dorcas Greer Scholarship Report was presented by Pine Ridge WI. Miss Marjorie MacDonald, the Home Economist said a few words. Following this a short break was held. Continuing on the FWIO Report by Mrs. Donald Harvie, Mrs. Peter Clute gave reports of the Standing Committees. Mrs. Michael Jacobs gave the report of Federation of Agriculture Rep. Mrs. Donald Harvie looked after the Elec- tion and installation of officers. Silver Maple WI led the in Memorium. Mrs. John Knuff made the in- troduction of all guests. All repeated the Women's Institute Grace and the luncheon was held by _ the program began at 1 p.m. with a Singsong. A vote was held for or against - "Drawing of Branch Names for Entertaining." The Roll call was repeated by the District Direc- tors; 1. When the Branch was organized, How many members then -- and _ now; followed by a presen- tation of a cheque for 'Pennies for Friend- ship." Mrs. John DeGorter gave a report of public relations officer, the report of the Scholar- ship Committee was given by Mrs. Leonard Dorion. The Tweed- smuir Histories report was given by Mrs. Hugh Ritchie and Mrs. Michael Jacobs gave the report of Officers' Conference. A plant sale was held with the proceeds going to the District Funds. New Business' was presented; and a discussion of District Annual Hostess for 1981 was held and lastly was the Courtesy Resolutions by New Flos WI. All sang the National Anthem. The new District President of the Women's Institute is Mrs. John Knuff of RR 1 Elmvale. A_ special thanks to Mrs. Allan Drinkill of Waverley who is now our past president. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sheppard of Calgary, Alberta were weekend visitors of the latter's sister, Mrs. Clarence Atkinson. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Atkinson and family of Guelph were also recent guests. Mrs. Jim Kenney, vice-president of the New Flos WI attended the Officer's Conference Mr. and Mrs. Archie Wanless and Peter, and Miss Mary Fransen, attended the Saturday, May 3 wedding of Mrs. Wanless' niece, Miss Margaret Louise Jibb and Anjelo Di Domizio.
